General modelling[edit]

Test results are modelled using the property assessment (P5021) with qualifier assessment outcome (P9259) in case of a pass/failure result.

If a test does not produce a pass/failure result but a score assessment outcome (P9259) is omitted and only review score (P444) is used:

There are additional qualifiers than can be used to convey more information about the assessment outcome:

Qualifiers to use along with assessment (P5021) in addition to assessment outcome (P9259)[edit]

Qualifiers to give more exact information about the assessment.

nature of statementP5102Itemcurrently mostly used with the following values:
  • rarely (Q28962310) - If the statement is accepted to be true but it is admitted that it is hardly the case. (E.g. if a film is said to pass the Bechdel Test but two women only talk for a very short time about something else than a man.)
  • disputed (Q18912752) - If the statement is disputed. (This may be applied to media critics, but also to the comment section of the Bechdel Test Movie List, for example)
  • dubious (Q104378399) - If an evaluation is dubious. (I mostly introduced it for the case that one editor has doubts about the statement of another editor but there is no decision, yet. Especially with respect to the application of Feldman criteria I see a lot of potential to apply this qualifier right away (e.g. if an editor decides that there is rather no stereotyping of women but is rather unsure about one character.)).

Modelling patterns[edit]

Bechdel test pattern: using review score (P444) in case of failure[edit]

Requirements:

  • The test requires a film to pass all criteria in order to pass the test.
  • The criteria build on each other (e.g. in order to pass the second criterion the first criterion has to be fulfilled)

For passing works no additional qualifier is needed:

assessment
Normal rank Bechdel test
assessment outcome passes

For failing works review score (P444) may be used to express how many points exactly were scored

Riz test pattern: using criterion used (P1013) in case of failure[edit]

For passing works no additional qualifier is needed:

For failing works criterion used (P1013) may be used to express which criterion was crucial to the assessment outcome:

Tests following this pattern[edit]

Feldman test pattern: using criterion used (P1013) and review score (P444) in case of both pass and failure[edit]

Requirements:

  • The test requires a variable number of criteria to be passed and a minimum number of points to be scored

Passing and failing works follow the same model:

There may be incomplete assessments with a clear result (e.g. if the minimum number of points is already scored with a subset of criteria or if it is impossible to reach the minimum number of points for the works). To make explicit that the assessment is incomplete the maximum number of points should be adjusted to the maximum number of points that could have been scored with the criteria selected.

Tests following this pattern[edit]

(Afro-)BubbleGum Test Pattern: using review score (P444) in both pass and failure[edit]

Requirements:

  • Out of a set of criteria one criterion has to be fulfilled
  • There may be mandatory criteria

Passing and failing works follow the same model:

assessment
Normal rank <AfroBubbleGum Test>
assessment outcome passes
review score 2.2/3 ← The work fulfills the mandatory first criterion. Additionally this work fulfils the second criterion out of a set of criteria of which one has to be fulfilled.

Zimmerman Test pattern: using criterion used (P1013) in case of pass[edit]

Requirements: One criterion out of a set of criteria has to be fulfilled in order to pass the test.

For passing works criterion used (P1013) may be used in order to express which criterion/criteria is/are fulfilled:

For failing works no additional criterion is needed:

assessment outcome fails
