Discussion[edit]

  •  Question On the link to gave ([1]), I don't see any of the allowed values that you used in the proposal template. It only lists 3 broad categorie - "Kids", "Teen" and "Adult" - plus the local age ratings that theses 3 ratings cover (in my case in Germany: 0, 6, 12, 16, 18). Does Netflix actually have its own ratings system or are they just using the existing local rating systems (MPAA, FSK, etc.)? --Kam Solusar (talk) 20:06, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Kam Solusar: That is because you are viewing it from a territory where local rules apply to streaming :). If you check my description in the proposal above, you'll see that's not the case everywhere. Just play around with the territory selector and you'll see wherever local rules do not apply to streaming media, they use this system wherein they decide the ratings themselves. •  Comment Yes, Máté is right. The Netflix ratings are different by territory, depending on your IP address. And thus, it should not become a wikidata object. You have like 120 Netflix ratings for one movie. --Christian140 (talk) 08:12, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Christian140: Nope, that is not right. In many territories they use the local rating. That is NOT the scope of this property. However, where local ratings do not apply, they use this one. This is one rating that is used in many but not all territories (i.e. everywhere where the local ratings are not required on streaming media). – Máté (talk) 11:25, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
        • Ah, got it, thanks! Then it makes sense to have a property for this Netrix-specific rating system. Guess we'll just have to phrase the description and usage instructions in a way that people in bigger countries where local ratings are displayed don't try to find a way to add them via this property. --Kam Solusar (talk) 15:34, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
        • E.g., in Germany, local ratings are not required. But Netflix uses its own rating which is still different from the one you proposed. --Christian140 (talk) 09:27, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
          • I'll be honest, my German has seen better days… are you sure that SVoD providers are not required to use the local ratings in Germany? I know that in the Netherlands the Kijkwijzer database is flooded with Netflix and Disney+ titles, but in many other territories VoD can determine its own ratings but has to use the local ones. That is not what this property would be about. This is Netflix's own rating in its own (international) system. – Máté (talk) 17:17, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
